Tips, Events and Ideas for Celebrating Veterans Day 2018 in Dallas

On Monday, 12 November, we’re observing Veterans Day to honor all the brave men and women who have served the in the United States Armed Forces. Here at Shiny Key Properties, this is a day that’s especially close to our hearts, so we’d like to share some great ways that you can participate, enjoy the day and – above all – say thank you to those who served.

  • The Greater Dallas Veterans Day Parade: This annual event is a Dallas favorite and a truly moving event to attend. The opening ceremony will begin with the massing of the colors and an 11th hour (11AM) ceremony in front of City Hall. The parade will begin approximately 1 hour later, starting at Reunion Arena and proceeding north on Houston St. You’ll be able to see military vehicles and equipment on display, veterans’ organizations, and much more. One particular highlight is the flyover by the U.S. Air Force. This year, the theme is “Commemorating the End of World War I, November 11, 1918”
  • 2018 Veterans Day Celebration and Concert: Held at Rockwall High School Performing Arts Center on November 8thand 9th, all veterans and their guests are invited to attend this special day of celebration. With a flag raising ceremony, breakfast and assembly, as well as great music performed by the students, it promises to be a fantastic event!
  • Farmer’s Branch Veterans Day: Farmers Branch Senior Center is hosting a great event on November 9th that’s free for all veterans. With a patriotic ceremony with posting of the colors, a performance by the Victory Belles and an all-American hot dog lunch, this event keeps growing in popularity every year – so get there early!
  • Veterans Day with the Dallas Stars: If hockey is your passion, this is the Veterans Day event for you! With a special discount for veterans, first responders, and military, you can watch the Dallas Stars play to win at the American Airlines Center. The discount is proudly brought to you by Carry the Load, a fantastic organization dedicated to providing meaningful ways to honor and celebrate our nation’s heroes.
  • Grapevine Veterans Day Parade: This year’s parade is focused on making Veterans Day a meaningful experience, and this year’s theme is honoring women in the military. In addition to honoring veterans, this event also raises awareness around the many hard-working organizations dedicated to supporting veterans in need. You can catch the parade on Main Street between Dallas Rd and Wall St in Historic Downtown Grapevine.
  • Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Veterans Day Performance: Held on November 12th at NorthPark Center at 1PM, the audience will be treated to a rousing, patriotic celebration of our country’s veterans, led by a string quartet and a woodwind quintet. This event is free to all attendees and kids are welcome.
  • Arlington Heroes Parade: If an afternoon event is more your style, this is the perfect event for you! Held from 2PM on November 10th in Downtown Arlington, you can catch a parade full of festive floats, followed by a fantastic Veterans Day celebration at Division Brewing, including live music from local bands.
  • American Heroes Festival: The festivities go from early in the morning on to late into the night with the American Heroes Festival at The Colony Five Star Complex. Admission is free, and you can enjoy a huge variety of entertainment, from ceremonies to honor America’s heroes to a carnival, live music, and a fantastic fireworks display.

Celebrating Veterans Day in Your Neighborhood

If you’re looking for a different way to celebrate Veterans Day, why not look closer to home? If there are veterans in your neighborhood who are elderly or don’t have family nearby, invite them along to your festivities at home or drop off a care package of goodies just to show your appreciation. This is a wonderful way to show that you care, build those essential community connections and lend a helping hand to those who may need the support or just some company!
